EITD Research is addressing issues of critical concern to women. These include problems of poverty, education, health care, economic structures and policy, the girl child, women and the environment and the advancement of women.

We do not only seek to improve understanding of  gender roles and needs. We challenge individuals and society to meet the needs with particular emphasis on changing the status of women in society. By developing and sharing ideas, we bring people (men, women and children) together to help identify their needs and collaborate to meet them optimally.

We keep up pressure on the Government and other bodies to commit themselves to equity and equal opportunity policies and their implementation. We promote specific interventions designed to improve the status of women in society. These considerations weigh heavily in the planning and implementation of all aspects of the range of our own programmes, projects and activities.

Some examples:

  • EITD Research works on macro-economic and development issues in: budgets; policy influences and decisions; structural reforms; competition and privatization. These are crucial issues for women. Click here for more on our development and economic policy work.

  • Women are industrious and entrepreneurial, but they often do not reap the full benefits of their endeavours. Numerous problems obstruct their enterprise and industry. These include micro-level problems such as those of markets, production, engineering, financing, education and training. EITD Research works on these with particular emphasis on policy planning, administration and management, small and medium-size enterprises, co-operatives, the informal sector and micro-enterprises, industrial services and private sector development. Women stand to benefit. Click here for more.

  • EITD Research is involved in developing specific devices such as pounding machines, meters, signal receivers and generators that reduce toil, increase productivity, safety and comfort in the home and in industry. These developments have unique benefits for women. Click here for more.

  • Our work on local traditional staples such as cocoyam, cassava, yams, plantains and fruits is providing data for commercializing these staples in nutritionally balanced conservable forms employing technologies with minimal impacts on desired consumer tastes. The work is adding value to these grassroots staples whilst reducing post-harvest losses. This is of benefit to consumers and especially the women at the grassroots who are the principal producers of these crops. So too will our work on the apparently chronic deficiencies in water supplies, sanitation and illness prevention systems assist women and children, especially those in grassroots communities. Click here for more.

  • EITD Research works on the planning, administration and management of education; in specialized training and work environments; early childhood education; on gender issues in education and education impact assessment. Women stand to benefit. Click here for more.

  • EITD Research is also focusing its environment and production work on energy and traditional agriculture, areas of particular importance to the women of sub-Saharan Africa. Click here for more.

  • More and more individuals and organisations are taking advantage of the top quality field services and strong technical support provided by EITD Research to innovate and improve their performance in managing the resources they employ in their various enterprises, industries and projects. Individual women, groups and organisations can and are welcome to take advantage of these services and support. Click here for more.
